That Scarlet Pimpernel

I am a near constant traveller based in Miami Beach, Fl. Over the years I have burdened my friends with a flood of emails, seems time to move on, get with the times and burden them with a flood of blog entries! Inspired by my fictional alter ego, I can only observe "he's here, he's there, he's everywhere, that damned Pimpernel..."

Logical end of week

Logical end of week --- wheeeeeeeee Spending the weekend in Amsterdam. Glad to say that the weather forecast has been improved, although one always suspects the weather guys are just having a giggle at our expense.

Flying out of Norwich International is easy enough. Small airport, short lines, etc. Reminds me of Cedar Rapids all those years ago. Will get back Sunday evening, just in time for a 2-day off-site Monday/Tuesday. Never good timing for these things.

Very much looking forward to the October trip to SoBe. Another quickie, but that's OK. Maureen, Peter, et al are coming down from the NorthEast. Jeremy is back from South America. The usual suspects are all in evidence. And I am certain there will be a couple of surprises. I am sure good times will be had by all. AND it will be stone crab season!! hold me back!

Meeting the Boss for a beer after work, and it is about that time. Haven't been to the Surrey Tavern in some time. A bit of a shame, as I do enjoy the place. So, I'm off....... enjoy yourselves!!

Dressing, et al

Had a tough time waking and dressing this morning. Everything got on in the right order but my sweater made it on backwards, etc. Ah well, not really out to impress anyone.

East Anglia is now firmly into the Autumnal mode -- cool and windy. Fortunately, not that wet. Zurich promises to be warmer this weekend, certainly worth the trip.

Enroute to Zurich, I am taking the long way around (London) to fly out of London City Airport. Far cheaper ($300/1.5 hours) and faster than Norwich International ($950/5 hours). I will go down tomorrow afternoon by train for an early evening flight. Coming back on Sunday is a bit of an adventure, as the trains will not be running, so a taxi will be required. Very eccentric, very British.

Truly looking forward to visiting a former haunt. There is an old stone bridge across the mouth of Lake Zurich where you can stand and see all the way up the lake to the foothills of the Alps. On a clear day, it is quite a sight. Autumn is generally spectacular, as the foliage is changing color and the frost has not yet killed off the flowers. If only the Swiss made a decent beer -- at least they have the sense to import some. The weekend will go quickly, but better a short visit than none.

In a couple of weeks, I will be again in Amstedam and then Miami. Nice time of the year to travel.

Looking at Paris or Strassbourg for Christmas. Christmas in Strassbourg and New Year's in Paris may be the Grand Compromise... I am not a major New Year's Eve partier, so I don't miss much just by staying home, although I shouldn't miss the opportunity to get out of town. (decisions, decisions...)
